Not only are we keeping your next move simple, but we chose an organization that impacts families and furry friends in our community. The Maryland SPCA needs our help to support pets who have been lost, forgotten, or given up.
The Maryland SPCA is not only Maryland’s oldest animal shelter but it is one of the oldest shelters in the nation! Since 1869 animals have the proper treatment and love here. Originally the people of Baltimore were concerned about care of the City’s work horses. Horses at that time pulled wagons and worked on fields. The MD SPCA investigated the accusations of mistreatment and found a shelter would be beneficial. In the 20th century the organization stated transporting animals to a shelter where they could give the nourishment required. After the time period of work horses, the staff of the MD SPCA turned their focus on homeless dogs. From the 1950’s to present day, this organization still only works off of private donations to care for animals at their shelter.
On average the shelter places more than 3,000 pets in loving caring homes. The adoption center is still one of the busiest in the Baltimore area. The veterinarians perform approximately 7,000 spay and neuter surgeries each year. The MD SPCA rescues animals from other shelters who do not have the space or supplies. They initiated foster care programs, and training classes to help pets recover from a tough life and assist new pet parents.
The Maryland SPCA is saving many lost or forgotten pets from a hard life. If you ever have the chance to visit their facility you will see how much they care for their animals. We are proud to support them in their efforts to end animal suffering and abuse. Thank you to everyone who helped us give to the furry friends here.
